Mine Wastewater Management
Mastering mine wastewater operations in periods of water excess and water shortage, in order to ensure maximum water reuse, controlled water discharge, and environmentally sound practices
Event Date: 15-16 Nov 2010
Location: Hyatt Regency, Perth, Australia

Water is essential to all mining and mineral processing activities and, in Australia, the minerals industry is increasingly facing competition from other users, such as agricultural and urban development, for access to this important natural resource. Additionally water is the principal agent by which potential pollutants can be carried from mine sites to the surrounding environment by surface and subsurface flows. Consequently sound water management practices are essential for the minerals industry to operate in an environmentally and socially responsible manner.

This Mine Wastewater Management training will explore how to manage mine wastewater operations in periods of drought and periods of excess water, and the importance of having a contingency plan for either scenario. You will learn all potential reuses of worked and treated water on-site and appropriate site-specific treatment methods. With new stringent legislation bringing tighter controls you need to ensure best practices are being followed, resulting in an environmentally sound, sustainable and responsible mine site.

"The global mining industry is embracing emerging innovations that enable us to significantly improve the efficiency with which we use, reuse and recycle water, in order to thrive in a sustainable and environmentally-responsible manner. Now is the time to jump on board this new wave. - Anonymous"
In this day and age mining activities are expected to be more than merely financially and technically sound – they must also balance and embrace the evolving needs of the environment and community. Any organisation not investing in this way of thinking will not survive mining in Australia in the 21st century
